Fully Fund QLD State Schools: Community Forum & Free Meal

As a former public school teacher who has worked across Queensland over the last twenty years, Penny is passionate about giving our kids access to the quality education they deserve, and knows the system inside and out.

Join Penny and Katinka on Monday 29 July from 6PM - 8:30PM at the Taylor Range Country Club, 8 Greenlanes Rd, Ashgrove.

I won’t be able to make it to this one, but I shared this because I know from many conversations I’ve had across the west side that many of us are deeply concerned about the future of our education system. Funding for Queensland state schools is the lowest of all states in the country. Our kids miss out on $1.7 billion every year.

In just the last term of government public schools in The Gap were underfunded by $20 million, which represents a shortfall of $2745 per student every year.

This means fewer teachers, fewer resources for kids and more out-of-pocket expenses for families. School staff and parents, particularly P&Cs, do incredible work to make up this funding gap for our kids, but in a wealthy state like Queensland our public schools should not only be world-class, they should be genuinely free.

Please bring your questions and ideas to the forum and stay for a delicious free meal. My colleagues will be discussing why our public schools are being underfunded and what we can do together to fix it.
