Labor’s National Conference is happening in South Brisbane in August, and they need to hear the message loud and clear: cap rents and build public housing.
The housing crisis is fast escalating. 62% of renters are in financial stress and offered no protection from rising rents and evictions, while wait lists for social and affordable housing are rapidly growing longer. Yet, Labor is showing zero signs of taking it seriously.
We know this pressure works. After months of campaigning, the Greens have secured $2 billion in new funding for public and community housing. It’s a great start, but we urgently need Labor to take action for the one-third of Australians who rent, by coordinating a national freeze and cap on rent increases, and commit to $2.5 billion every year for public and affordable housing.
The Greens remain in negotiations with Labor on their separate Housing Australia Future Fund, which does nothing for renters and only spends $500 million a year from 2024/25.
Come along to this event to paint banners and make posters with us ahead of the rally!
We'll also be running the barbecue so you can have a free snag or two to fuel the creative juices.
Hope to see you there!
