More Secure Work

More gig work and a rise in short-term contracts means that job insecurity is rife, making it harder to plan your life, pay the bills, or get a home. Also, many gig workers don’t have access to sick leave or receive holiday pay. We saw how during the pandemic, people in insecure jobs lost work eight times faster than those in permanent jobs.

There are workers in Ryan struggling to make ends meet on the wages from multiple casual and contract jobs, and the Government's calculation of the unemployment figure (which excludes anyone who is under-employed or who's out of work but not available to start a new job immediately) doesn't reflect the reality of how many people are out of work.

The Greens will introduce a national jobs and income guarantee and rewrite the labour laws to give working people more rights, increase wages, and outlaw insecure work.
