The LNP Brisbane City Council intends to privatise parts of Mt Coot-Tha. Under the council’s plans, the Mt Coot-Tha Quarry is set to become a major Olympics-focused tourist development, seriously limiting the potential for public space for the benefit of everyone. The Mayor has indicated support for a luxury hotel and zipline at the rehabilitated quarry.
Handing over 26 hectares of Mt Coot-Tha to private developers will fundamentally change its status as a protected natural reserve and create a dangerous precedent that could see more of Mt Coot-Tha privatised.
Together we can protect Mt Coot-Tha.
I hosted a community forum in February that had an incredible turnout. Our community wants this Brisbane asset to be a public, open-access green space that enhances the Mt Coot-Tha natural landscape, supports the rich local ecosystem and compliments the Botanic Gardens.
Community pressure forced the LNP Council to back down from their previous attempt to privatise Mt Coot-tha, and together we can do it again.
Can you help our campaign to keep Mt Coot-Tha quarry in public hands by hosting a yard sign on your fence?
Sign up and one of our volunteers will be in touch.
